Border Status
Entry restricted for international travelers
Most international travelers are not allowed to enter Taiwan. Travelers can apply for a special entry permit at the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in the country from which they plan to travel but travel for tourism, and regular social visits will not be allowed.
Entry restrictions do not apply to:
- Residents of Taiwan;
- Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) holders;
- Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC) holders;
- For diplomatic or official business;
- To fulfill contractual obligations;
- For special humanitarian reasons;
- The spouse or the underage child and foreign relatives of a R.O.C. (Taiwan) national;
- Students, professors, and researchers;
- Business travelers;
- Volunteer workers.
Transit is allowed
Travelers are allowed to transit through Taiwan TPE airport. Please check the documentation, or testing requirements before transiting.
Transit travelers are required to: -Stay at the airport transit zone for a maximum of 12 hours and have all flights under the one itinerary and ticket (no separate tickets). Cross-day transit is not allowed.
Travelers with connecting flights to or from China are not allowed to transit.

Before You Leave
No proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results is required
Travelers don’t need a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test result before traveling to Taiwan.
Mandatory accommodation booking
Travelers must also provide proof of the place of quarantine to enter Taiwan. The place shall be a quarantine-hotel, or government quarantine facility.
Those who choose to quarantine at home are required to complete an online affidavit form to declare they have met the requirement of one person per residence.
Mandatory health declaration form
All travelers are required to fill out a health declaration form 48 hours before their arrival in Taiwan. This form can be completed in writing or online.
On Arrival
Mandatory COVID-19 test on arrival
Travelers are required to take a saliva COVID-19 PCR test on arrival at the airport and quarantine after arrival.
Mandatory 3-day quarantine and testing
Travelers are required to quarantine for 3 days on arrival, followed by 4 days of self-initiated epidemic prevention. Travelers may quarantine at home or at a residence. If the rule of 1 person per residence cannot be followed, travelers are required to quarantine at a hotel. Travelers will receive 2 at-home COVID-19 rapid test kits which can be used if symptoms appear during quarantine and before going out for the first time during the self-initiated epidemic prevention period. At-home rapid test kits will be provided to inbound travelers at the airport on arrival.
This requirement does not apply to:
- Travelers under the age of 2.
Health pass for public activity may be required
Travelers are required to present a valid record of vaccination in order to access some leisure and entertainment venues, such as bars, pubs, beauty parlors, saunas, and nightclubs. Valid proof of vaccination must also be shown to access hospitals and residential long-term care facilities.
The record must show that two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were received at least 14 days before entering the venue, and can be shown via a paper vaccination card, Digital COVID-19 Certificate, or digital record shown on the NHI Express App for verification.
