Border Status
Travel is allowed with restrictions
Travelers are allowed to enter South Korea. Please check the documentation, quarantine, and/or testing requirements before traveling.
Transit is allowed
Most travelers transiting through Korean airports (who do not pass through immigration) have no COVID-19 testing or quarantine requirement for stays less than 24 hours. However, transit travelers may need to undergo temperature checks or fill out health questionnaires.
Transit travelers will receive a temperature check on arrival in Korea. Symptomatic individuals will be subject to a COVID-19 test and hospitalization if found positive. Travelers who do not show symptoms and/or test negative may continue their journey.

Before You Leave
Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results
Travelers, including nationals, must have a printed negative COVID-19 NAAT (PCR, RT-PCR, LAMP, TMA, SDA, NEAR, and others) test result in English or Korean. The COVID-19 test must be taken a maximum of 2 days before the date of departure, and the result should be negative. Please check the source for more details.
Electronic results such as on mobile devices are not accepted.
This requirement does not apply to:
- Travelers under the age of 6, if accompanied by travelers with a valid negative COVID-19 NAAT test result;
- Korean citizens who were previously infected with COVID-19 and have a positive COVID-19 PCR test result from a test taken between 10 and 40 days before departure;
- Foreign nationals on a long-term stay who were previously infected with COVID-19 in South Korea traveling to South Korea within 10 to 40 days of the date when they tested positive for COVID-19. For proof of the previous infection in South Korea these travelers must be in possession of a “Notice of Quarantine” or “Confirmation of release from isolation of COVID-19 patients” document, and have either a residence card, overseas Korean resident card, permanent resident card or ID card of a diplomatic mission in South Korea;
- Air travelers in transit;
- Travelers who are granted an exemption and have the required proof;
- South Korean nationals arriving from Ukraine.

Re-entry permit required for foreign long-term residents
Registered foreign residents who have departed on or after April 1st, 2022, and intend to re-enter South Korea after spending more than 1 year abroad from the date of departure (2 years maximum) are required to obtain a multiple re-entry permit before departing for international travel from South Korea.
This requirement does not apply to:
- Travelers Diplomats (A-1), Government Officials (A-2), International Agreement (A-3), or Overseas Korean (F-4) status are not required to apply for a Re-Entry Permit;
- Foreign residents who have departed on or after April 1st, 2022, and will be returning within the 1-year allowance (2 years for permanent residents);
- Nationals of Suriname, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Finland, and Chile.
Mandatory proof of vaccination to avoid quarantine
Travelers must present valid proof of vaccination in order to avoid quarantine on arrival in South Korea.
Travelers with proof of vaccination issued in South Korea are exempt from the requirement to quarantine on arrival if they have completed their vaccination in South Korea or already registered their overseas vaccination certificate at a local South Korean public health center. To be exempt from quarantine these travelers must present either proof of a South Korean vaccination certificate or a registration in the South Korean COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate System (COOV).
Travelers with proof of vaccination issued outside of South Korea are exempt from quarantine on arrival if they register their proof of vaccination through the Quarantine COVID-19 Defence (Q-Code) system before departure and scan the provided QR code upon arrival. Please select ‘Complete online before departure’ to register proof of vaccination issued outside of South Korea.
Travelers are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after they received the second dose in a 2-dose series or a single dose in a single-dose series (Janssen). Travelers must have received their most recent dose a maximum of 180 days before arrival, or a booster shot. Accepted vaccines are Pfizer, Janssen, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Covaxin, and Novavax.
Travelers whose most recent dose was taken more than 180 days before arrival and who have not received a booster dose may also be considered fully vaccinated and exempt from quarantine if they can provide valid proof of recovery from COVID-19. These travelers must submit documents with the PCR test results from their initial infection and proof of complete recovery to the quarantine officer in Korean or English on arrival.
Travelers departing from Canadian airports require proof of vaccination
All travelers departing from Canada via air, rail, or cruise ships need to be fully vaccinated. This requirement applies to all travelers aged 12 years plus 4 months and older. This requirement applies to international and domestic departures.
Fully vaccinated travelers must have received a full course of vaccination with an accepted vaccine. The accepted 2 dose vaccines are:
- AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222);
- Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C);
- Medicago Covifenz;
- Novavax (NVX-COV2373, Nuvaxovid, Covovax);
- Moderna (mRNA-1273);
- Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2);
- Sinopharm BIBP (BBIBP-CorV);
- Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc).
The accepted 1 dose vaccine is:
- Janssen/Johnson & Johnson.
Travelers that have received a combination of 2 accepted vaccines are considered fully vaccinated. Travelers must have received their last dose at least 14 days before arrival.
Travelers who fail to comply, refuse, or provide untruthful information on this measure, may be subject to a penalty or a fine.

On Arrival
Mandatory COVID-19 test on arrival
Travelers are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test a maximum of 24 hours after arrival in South Korea.
Nationals of South Korea and travelers with Long-term visas can take their test free of charge at a community testing center.
Foreign nationals must cover the costs of their own test and take their test at an approved medical institution. Please see the link for a list of approved testing centers.

Travelers who intend to stay in South Korea for 8 days or more must take a COVID-19 self-administered ART (Antigen Rapid Test) on day 6 or day 7 after arrival in South Korea at their own expense.

No quarantine required for vaccinated travelers
Fully vaccinated travelers are not required to quarantine on arrival. Travelers with proof of vaccination issued outside of South Korea must register their proof of vaccination through the Quarantine COVID-19 Defence (Q-Code) system before departure and scan the provided QR code upon arrival.
