Description

Travelers arriving from selected countries for a short-term stay for tourism are allowed to enter Japan.

Visitor visas are suspended for most nationalities. Independent travelers can not get a tourist visa regardless of their country of origin. Foreign nationals planning to travel for short-term tourism trips may be authorized to enter as long as they have the ERFS form. The ERFS form should be obtained by a receiving organization located in Japan through an online application along with other visa application documents in response to the purpose of the visit.

Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results

Description

Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 (RT-PCR, LAMP, TMA, TRC, Smart Amp, NEAR, Next-generation sequence, or CLEIA) test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure. The test must be conducted by either a nasopharyngeal swab, saliva sample, or a combination of nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs. Nasal swab tests (limited to nucleic acid amplification test) are also accepted as valid specimens for the pre-departure test.

This includes Japanese nationals, Business Track, and Residence Track travelers.

Quantitative COVID-19 antigen tests are accepted, however, please check the source to verify the valid format for the certificate of negative results.

More Details

The test results must have a name, date of birth, test method, test result, sample collection date and time, test result determination date, test certificate issuance date, medical institution name, date of issue, medical institution imprint, or signature in English.
