Travelers can transit through Hong Kong International Airport.

Travelers starting their trip in mainland China can transit through Hong Kong International Airport. However, transit to destinations in mainland China remains unavailable at HKIA.

Travelers in transit must have an onward flight ticket or boarding pass that confirms departure a maximum of 24 hours after the scheduled arrival time in Hong Kong. Baggage must also be tagged through to the onward destination. Travelers must ensure in advance that they can enter the final destination.

Travelers must take the test a maximum of 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of the last flight to Hong Kong SAR. All travelers must complete a health declaration form before arrival in Hong Kong. Travelers must include proof of COVID-19 vaccination and the negative pre-departure COVID-19 rapid antigen (RAT) test results in the form. After submitting the online form, the system will generate a QR code valid for 96 hours. Travelers must get the green health declaration QR code generated on completion of the declaration. Travelers must present the green QR code at check-in for airline verification before boarding a flight to Hong Kong. Travelers can present a health declaration QR code as a downloaded version, a screenshot, or a printout.

Travelers from mainland China and Macao don’t need to include a negative pre-departure COVID-19 rapid antigen (RAT) test result in the form.

Mandatory proof of COVID-19 vaccination for Hong Kong SAR

Fully vaccinated travelers must have a valid proof of having received the last dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before travel. The vaccine must be issued in English or Chinese by Hong Kong or by relevant authorities or recognized institutions of the places where the vaccines were administered. Travelers must include proof of COVID-19 vaccination in the health declaration form.

The vaccination certificate must include the name of the traveler, the date on which the last dose was administered, the name of the vaccine, or the name of the marketing authorization holder or manufacturer of the vaccine. For more details, please check the source.

Travelers aged 12-17 years who have received 1 dose of the Comirnaty vaccine at least 14 days before travel is considered fully vaccinated.

Travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 and have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before arrival in Hong Kong SAR are considered fully vaccinated.

Travelers with access to the EU Digital COVID Certificate may use it as proof.

This vaccination requirement doesn’t apply to the following travelers:

  • Travelers under the age of 12;
  • Travelers who are unfit for vaccination due to health reasons with relevant proof issued by a medical practitioner;
  • Hong Kong citizens.

Description

Travelers arriving via the Hong Kong International Airport must take a COVID-19 nucleic acid test on arrival (Day 0). After taking the COVID-19 test, travelers can proceed with the normal arrival process. Travelers can use self-arranged transport, including public transport to the home or other self-arranged accommodations. Travelers are free to go out but must follow the Amber code restrictions.

Travelers with a positive COVID-19 test result will receive an SMS notification about the result, together with further instructions. Traveler’s Vaccine Pass will be switched to Red Code.

Mandatory 3-day medical surveillance and testing

Description

Travelers who stayed only in selected countries for the past 7 days must undergo medical surveillance at home or in other self-arranged accommodations. Travelers must undergo medical surveillance for 3 days on arrival. Travelers are free to go out but must follow the Amber code restrictions.

A further 4 days of self-monitoring is also mandatory. During medical surveillance and self-monitoring, travelers must take daily COVID-19 rapid antigen (RAT). Travelers must also take a COVID-19 nucleic acid test on day 2 after arrival in Hong Kong. Travelers can take the test at a community testing center/community testing station or a mobile specimen collection station. Travelers can also arrange a self-paid test by professional swab sampling at a local medical testing institution that is recognized by the Government. Travelers must keep the photos of the negative rapid antigen (RAT) test and SMS notifications containing the COVID-19 nucleic acid test result.

Travelers can report daily RAT results and health status via the ”Electronic COVID-19 Medical Surveillance System” (eCMSS) during the medical surveillance and self-monitoring period.
