Travelers can transit through Hong Kong International Airport.

Travelers starting their trip in mainland China are able to transit through Hong Kong International Airport. However, transit to destinations in mainland China remains unavailable at HKIA.

Travelers in transit must have an onward flight ticket or boarding pass that confirms departure a maximum of 24 hours after the scheduled arrival time in Hong Kong. Baggage must also be tagged through to the onward destination. Travelers must ensure in advance that they are able to enter the final destination.

Description

Travelers are required to have a negative COVID-19 PCR nucleic acid test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 48 hours before the scheduled departure time of the last flight to Hong Kong SAR.

Travelers who were infected with COVID-19 in the last 14 to 90 days before boarding for Hong Kong SAR and have recovered are required to have a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) test a maximum of 24 hours before the scheduled time of departure to Hong Kong SAR.

Mandatory proof of vaccination for Hong Kong SAR

Fully vaccinated travelers are required to have valid proof of having received the last dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before travel. The vaccine must be accepted by the authorities of Hong Kong SAR and be issued in English or Chinese. For a list of types of vaccines accepted, please check the source.

Travelers aged 12-17 years who have received 1 dose of the Comirnaty vaccine at least 14 days before travel is considered to be fully vaccinated.

Travelers who are residents of Hong Kong SAR who have received 1 dose of a recognized COVID-19 vaccine and hold a recognized vaccination record are considered fully vaccinated if they were certified by a medical practitioner that they were unfit to receive the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine because of health reasons.

Travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 and have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before arrival in Hong Kong SAR are considered fully vaccinated.

Some travelers must have their proof of vaccination issued in specific countries.

Travelers who have access to the EU Digital COVID Certificate may use it as proof.

Travelers arriving via the Hong Kong International Airport are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test and a rapid antigen test (RAT) on arrival. If both test results are negative, travelers will be allowed to go to the hotel for which they made the reservation to continue the compulsory quarantine until completion. If their results are positive, the travelers will be transferred to the hospital for quarantine and treatment.

Travelers are required to quarantine for 14 days at a Designated Quarantine Hotel (DQH). Travelers are required to undergo daily COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (RATs) during compulsory quarantine.

Fully vaccinated travelers have the option of ending quarantine after 7 days. Fully vaccinated travelers opting for early discharge from quarantine with a 7-night accommodation booking at a Designated Quarantine Hotel (DQH) can end quarantine with negative test results from a COVID-19 PCR test on days 3, 5 and rapid antigen tests on days 6 and 7. These travelers are required to continue with 7 days of self-monitoring and take COVID-19 PCR tests on days 9 and 12 after arrival in Hong Kong SAR. This requirement also applies to unvaccinated children under the age of 12 accompanied by fully vaccinated parents. 

Travelers completing the full quarantine duration with a 14-night accommodation booking at a Designated Quarantine Hotel (DQH) must take daily COVID-19 rapid antigen tests and 3 COVID-19 PCR tests on days 3, 5, and 12. These travelers can exit quarantine with negative test results from a COVID-19 PCR test on day 12 and a rapid antigen (RAT) test on day 14. This also applies to travelers who are medically unfit for the complete course of vaccination.
