Description

Most international travelers cannot enter or transit through mainland China.

Travelers who transit through a third country on their way to mainland China must have a valid health code and negative pre-departure COVID-19 nucleic acid test results before boarding the flight.

Travelers arriving in mainland China who depart from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau and transit through a third country should get a health code from the third country’s China embassy. Transit is not allowed unless travelers enter a third country.

More Details

This entry restriction doesn’t apply to the following travelers:

  • Chinese citizens;
  • Diplomatic, service, courtesy, or C visas;
  • Foreigners with a Chinese Residence Permit issued by China (People’s Rep.) for work, personal matters, or reunions;
  • Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan passport holders traveling to Mainland China on their relevant entry permit;
  • Foreign nationals with a visa issued on or after 28 March 2020;
  • Foreign nationals holding a Chinese Mainland Permanent Resident Card;
  • International travelers who are arriving in Mainland China for necessary economic, trade, scientific, or technological activities or out of emergency humanitarian needs. These travelers may apply for visas at Chinese embassies or consulates.

Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results is required

All travelers arriving from the United States must have negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test results. Travelers must take the test a maximum of 48 hours before departure.

The test certificate must include the traveler’s name, passport number, date of birth, date of collection, date of report, and contact information of the testing institution.

Travelers must also apply for a health QR code with the “HS” mark (for Chinese nationals) or “HDC” mark (for foreign nationals) or a certified health declaration form from the Chinese consulate in the country of origin before boarding the flight.

Nucleic acid samples can be collected and tested at any legal laboratory with CLIA certification in the United States.

Mandatory health declaration form before arrival

Description

All travelers entering mainland China must submit a health declaration form, travelers must submit the form online or via WeChat. Travelers must declare their health information a maximum of 24 hours before their entry.

Alternatively, the China Customs mobile app can be used for nationalities where WeChat is unavailable.

More Details

To make the declaration with WeChat, travelers should search for “passenger fingertip service” within the app. Once the declaration is complete, a QR code will be generated, which can be scanned by immigration.

Mandatory proof of COVID-19 vaccination for mainland China

Travelers who are fully vaccinated must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination having received all doses required at least 14 days before travel.

Travelers must download the vaccination statement document, sign it by hand and upload it along with their COVID-19 test certificates and proof of vaccination to the Health Code app.

Inactivated and non-inactivated vaccines are allowed to enter mainland China as long as the documentation is correct. Travelers must contact the embassy to confirm documentation.

All travelers entering mainland China must apply for a health QR code with the “HS” mark (for Chinese nationals) or “HDC” mark (for foreign nationals) or a certified health declaration form from the Chinese consulate in the country of origin before boarding their flight.

Chinese nationals can obtain the health code through the WeChat app ‘Fang Yi Jian Kang Ma Guo Ji Ban,’ and foreign nationals can obtain the health code through the link below for foreign nationals.

Travelers must upload all negative test results (not including the tests taken on the day of departure), proof of vaccination (if applicable), passport information, and all other required documentation. Travelers must follow the instructions of their “HS” mark (for Chinese nationals) or “HDC” mark (for foreign nationals) and travel within the validity period. Travelers must show their approved health QR code at check-in.
