Border Status
Travel is allowed with restrictions for vaccinated travelers
Fully vaccinated travelers who have completed the full course of vaccination with a Government of Canada-accepted vaccine at least 14 days before arrival in Canada are allowed to enter Canada.
The Government of Canada might change this recommendation without prior notice. Please continue to check restrictions prior to travel.
Before boarding an aircraft for a flight between two points in Canada or a flight to Canada departing from any other country, every traveler must confirm to the private operator or air carrier operating the flight that they understand that they may be subject to a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 taken by the provincial or territorial government with jurisdiction where the destination aerodrome for that flight is located or by the federal government.
Transit is allowed with restrictions
Travelers are allowed to transit through Canada to third countries as long as they do not leave the international airport area.
Domestic transfers are not permitted for Canadian citizens, permanent residents, resettling refugees, and persons registered under the Indian Act who don't qualify as fully vaccinated.
Overnight connections are not possible at:
- Montréal-Trudeau (YUL);
- Calgary International (YYC);
- Vancouver International (YVR);
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ).
Visas
Before You Leave
No proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results for vaccinated travelers
Fully vaccinated travelers are not required to present a negative COVID-19 test result to enter Canada by air, land, or water.
Mandatory proof of vaccination for Canada
Fully vaccinated travelers must have a vaccination certificate in English, French, or with a certified translation. The certificate must be uploaded digitally into the ArriveCAN app and must contain all details required.
Fully vaccinated travelers must have received a full course of vaccination with an accepted vaccine. The accepted 2 dose vaccines are:
- AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222);
- Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C);
- Medicago Covifenz;
- Moderna (mRNA-1273);
- Novavax (NVX-COV2373, Nuvaxovid, Covovax);
- Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2);
- Sinopharm BIBP (BBIBP-CorV);
- Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc).
The accepted 1 dose vaccine is:
- Janssen/Johnson & Johnson.
Travelers that have received a combination of 2 accepted vaccines are considered fully vaccinated. Travelers must have received their last dose at least 14 days before arrival.
Travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 are still required to have a full course of one of the approved vaccines to be considered fully vaccinated.
Travelers who are unable to present a valid certificate, or who do not adhere, may be required to comply with the requirements for unvaccinated travelers or may be liable to a monetary penalty.
Mandatory contact information form via ArriveCAN for vaccinated travelers
Fully vaccinated travelers are required to upload their proof of vaccination, submit their contact information and travel details, and complete a COVID-19 "self-assessment" a maximum of 72 hours before arrival. The information must be submitted digitally through the ArriveCAN app.
Travelers who fail to comply, or provide untruthful information, such as vaccination status, may be subject to a penalty or a fine.
Anyone who cannot submit the information through the app, because of a disability or “inadequate infrastructure,” will need to contact the government using a toll-free telephone number prior to starting their trip.
