Transit is allowed with restrictions

Description

Travelers are allowed to transit through Australia without an exemption if they are transiting for 72 hours or less. Travelers in transit through Australia for up to 72 hours must hold a transit visa, or be from an eligible country to transit without a visa (TWOV).

Unvaccinated travelers are not allowed to transit unless they have a medical contraindication to a COVID-19 vaccine or if they fall under an exempt category or hold an individual travel exemption.

Transit travelers are required to:

  • Complete a travel declaration;
  • Show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from a test taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure or a rapid antigen test result from a test taken a maximum of 24 hours before departure;
  • Secure an onwards ticket on a red zone flight that departs Australia no more than 72 hours after initial entry;
  • Follow the quarantine requirements in the state or territory that they arrive in. They may need to stay in hotel accommodation and may be asked to pay for their stay while awaiting their onward flight.

Travelers must complete the Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD) before departure to Australia.

Travelers can start the DPD 7 days before departure to add their trip details.

When completing the DPD, travelers are required to provide their contact and passport details, travel history, and vaccination status, and declare they are aware of quarantine requirements that may apply when traveling to Australia.

Each traveler is required to complete a DPD. Parents or guardians should complete a declaration for any traveler under the age of 16 years. Travelers aged 16 years and over should complete their own declaration.

Description

Fully vaccinated travelers going to Australia must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination that meets Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) requirements. All required doses must have been received at least 7 days before travel. Mixed doses count towards being fully vaccinated as long as all vaccines are approved or recognized by the TGA.

Vaccines accepted are AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Covishield, Pfizer/BioNTech Comirnaty, Moderna Spikevax, Moderna Takeda, Sinovac Coronavac, Bharat Biotech Covaxin, Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine, Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for travelers aged between18-60 years), Gamaleya Research Institute Sputnik V, and Novavax/Biocelect Nuvaxovid.

Travelers vaccinated in Australia may obtain an International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (ICVC) online.
