Travel is allowed with restrictions
Travelers arriving from selected countries are allowed to enter Italy. Please check the documentation, quarantine, and/or testing requirements before traveling.
No visa is required when traveling to Italy on a passport issued by the United States

Before You Leave
Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results
All travelers arriving from selected countries must have a negative COVID-19 test result from a molecular swab test taken a maximum of 72 hours before arrival, or an antigen test, taken a maximum of 24 hours before arrival in Italy.
COVID-tested flights: travelers are required to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR or antigenic test result, carried out by means of a swab, taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to boarding. Additionally, they will be required to take a molecular COVID-19 RT-PCR or antigen swab test on arrival at the destination airport.
This requirement does not apply to:
- Travelers under the age of 6;
- Travelers entering Italy for a period of 120 hours (5 days) for proven necessity due to work, health, or absolute emergency, with the obligation to leave Italy or begin quarantine after 120 hours have passed.
- A Molecular Test Up To 72 hours Before Arrival
- A Antigen Test Up To 24 hours Before Arrival
Mandatory pre-registration form for Puglia
Travelers arriving in Puglia must present a completed health declaration form prior to arrival. This form is only required for travelers entering the region of Puglia.
Mandatory passenger locator form
Travelers must fill in the digital Passenger Locator Form before travel. In exceptional cases, travelers without digital devices can fill out a paper form.
Mandatory proof of vaccination
Fully vaccinated travelers must have proof of having received the full course of vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency, at least 14 days before travel, and at most 9 months before travel. The vaccine proof must be written in Italian, English, French, or Spanish. Starting February 1st, vaccination certificates must be issued in the past 6 months.
Vaccines accepted are Comirnaty by Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, Vaxzevria, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Nuvaxovid (Novavax), Covishield (Serum Institute of India), R-CoVI (R-Pharm), Covid-19 vaccine-recombinat (Fiocruz). Those who took a different vaccine as a second shot are considered fully vaccinated. Please check the source for more details.
Travelers with access to the EU Digital COVID Certificate may use it to present proof.
Travelers who are unable to present this are required to comply with rules for unvaccinated travelers.
This requirement does not apply to:
- Travelers with valid proof of recovery from COVID-19. The certificate of recovery is valid for 180 days from the date of the first positive swab test

Recommended pre-registration form for Sicily
Travelers arriving at Palermo airport in Sicily are recommended to present a completed health declaration form prior to arrival. This form is only required for travelers entering Sicily.
No quarantine required for vaccinated travelers
Fully vaccinated travelers arriving from selected countries are not required to quarantine on arrival.
Travelers who have been in Canada, Japan, or the United States in the past 14 days before arrival and who have a valid certificate of recovery from COVID-19 are also not required to quarantine on arrival.

Mandatory health pass for public activity
Travelers with valid proof of vaccination or recovery are eligible for the Super/Enhanced Green Pass. This pass allows travelers to have access to a number of venues and attractions, such as indoor dining, accommodations, access to concerts, sports events, among others. Vaccination certificates must be issued in the past 9 months. Starting February 1st, vaccination certificates must be issued in the past 6 months.
The Basic Green Pass may include one of the following: the COVID-19 certificate showing the full vaccination course against COVID-19, the recovery certificate, or a negative molecular COVID-19 PCR test result taken a maximum of 72 hours before the activity, or a negative rapid antigen test result taken a maximum of 48 hours before activity. This pass is accepted for public transport and some outdoor activities depending on the risk code for each area. Test requirements for air travel may be different.
The EU Digital COVID Certificate and CDC “white cards" are accepted. Certificates issued by the health authorities of Canada, Japan, Israel, US, UK, including Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, are equivalent to those of the European Union for access to activities, businesses, services, and transport in Italy.
Certificates are accepted in Italian, English, Spanish, or French and can be both digital or in paper copy.

Mandatory use of FFP2 masks in public
Effective until at least March 31, 2022, all travelers must wear FFP2 type masks on all forms of transportation (including during air travel) and during public activities outdoors and indoors such as in theaters, concert halls, cinemas, sports competitions, and other venues. Failure to comply with this specific mask type requirement could lead to travelers being denied boarding or entry.
The use of other mask types is also required even outdoors outside of public activities.
