Entry into Italy from a restricted country is permitted to:

  • Italian Citizens;
  • Permanent residents;
  • Proven work;
  • Urgent health reasons;
  • Transiting home;
  • Foreign diplomats;
  • Foreign students;
  • Italian citizens or nationals of EU and Schengen Member States, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, or the Vatican City State and their close family members (cohabiting lineal relatives, spouse, civil or partner).

Mandatory health pass for public activity

Description

The Digital Green Certificate/Green Pass is required for air travel, ships, ferries, trains, and interregional transport services within Italy. It is also required to access some locations and participate in certain social activities such as indoor seated dining at restaurants and bars, museums, exhibitions, cultural sites, sporting events, swimming pools, gyms, concerts, fairs, conferences, amusement parks, and other venues.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate and CDC “white cards" are accepted. Alternatively, travelers can provide a negative molecular COVID-19 PCR test result taken a maximum of 72 hours before travel, a certificate of recovery, or a negative rapid antigen test result taken a maximum of 48 hours before travel or activity. Test requirements for air travel may be different.

Certificates are accepted in Italian, English, Spanish, or French and can be both digital or in paper copy.

Certificates issued by the health authorities of Canada, Japan, Israel, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and British bases on the island of Cyprus) and the United States are equivalent to those of the European Union for access to businesses and services in Italy such as indoor restaurants, museums and cinemas.
