Travelers arriving from selected countries are not allowed to enter mainland Portugal. Please note, direct travel to Madeira and Porto Santo is allowed. The land borders between Portugal and Spain are open.

Description

Travelers who are fully vaccinated must present a valid vaccination certificate. Travelers must have received all doses required of the vaccine at least 14 days before travel. Only vaccines authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are accepted in Portugal.

The EU Digital COVID certificate is the only document accepted as a valid document for entry. Travelers unable to present a valid certificate may be required to comply with rules for unvaccinated travelers.

Fully vaccinated travelers with an EU Digital COVID Certificate are not required to have a negative COVID-19 test result to enter Portugal.

Travelers with any other vaccination certificates are not considered fully vaccinated and must comply with the rules for unvaccinated travelers.

Travelers without an EU Digital COVID Certificate must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before the first departure. Alternatively, travelers can have an antigen test (TRAg) taken a maximum of 48 hours before departure. Only antigen tests acceptable by the European Union Health Committee are accepted for travel. The results must be in Portuguese, French, English, Spanish, or Italian and may be presented in paper or digital format.

Description

Travelers are required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result to access hotels or local accommodations. The same is needed to enjoy restaurants in high-risk municipalities and within established time periods such as on Friday nights and weekends.

The types of tests allowed are:

  • RT-PCR taken a maximum of 72 hours before its submission;
  • Antigen test with a laboratory report, taken a maximum of 48 hours before its submission;
  • Rapid antigen test using the self-test method, taken a maximum of 24 hours before its submission in the presence of a health or pharmaceutical professional who certifies its performance and result;
  • Rapid self-test antigen test carried out on the spot, at the door of the establishment to be visited, under the supervision of the persons in charge of these premises.

Travelers have the option to present proof via the EU Digital Certificate and vaccination certificates from the UK.
