Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results

Description

Travelers from selected countries must have a valid negative COVID-19 NAAT (PCR), LAMP, or an antigen LFD (lateral flow device) test result in English, French, or Spanish. The test must be taken any time in the 2 days before the departure of the last direct flight to the United Kingdom. Travelers arriving directly to England on Friday could take a test any time on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. The test result must be available for boarding. The test should meet at least 97% specificity and 80% sensitivity.

Travelers whose journey to England is a multi-leg journey can take the pre-travel COVID-19 test a maximum of 2 days before the start of the first leg.

This requirement applies to all travelers including United Kingdom citizens, residents, and all transit passengers.

More Details

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers from the Common Travel Area (the United Kingdom, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey), Ascension, Falkland Islands, St Helena, Ethiopia;
  • Travelers to the UK for urgent medical treatment or with a documented medical condition that means they can not take the test;
  • Travelers under the age of 12 on the day of arrival in England.

Mandatory COVID-19 testing package

Description

Travelers from selected countries must book a COVID-19 testing package before their arrival in the UK.

  • Vaccinated travelers are required to take a single test on or before day 2 after arrival;
  • Unvaccinated travelers are required to take a test on or before day 2 after arrival, and on or before day 8 after arrival.

Lateral flow tests are not accepted. Travelers must arrange to take COVID-19 PCR tests.

Travelers staying in the UK for less than 2 or 8 days are still required to book the tests, even if they will no longer be in the UK on the dates of the tests. They only need to take the tests if they’re still in the country on those dates. Travelers may use a provider recommended by the UK government or use a provider of their choice while ensuring the test meets the outlined requirements.

Travelers that test positive will be required to quarantine for 10-days.

  • Travelers aged 4 years and younger for England;
  • Travelers under the age of 11 for Scotland;
  • Jobs that qualify for travel exemptions such as aircraft pilots and crew, diplomatic missions, port workers, and many others;
  • Travelers from the CTA (Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Ireland, Channel Islands) and who have been there in the past 10 days.

Travelers, including some transit passengers, are required to complete a public health passenger locator form online before departure to the UK. The form must be submitted a maximum of 48 hours before arrival in the UK. Travelers must show either a printed copy or an online copy of the form on their phone at the UK border.

More Details

Travelers do not have to fill out the form if they’re traveling from one of the following places, and they were there for 14 days or more:

  • Ireland;
  • The Channel Islands;
  • The Isle of Man;
  • United Kingdom.

Travelers transiting through England who are not required to pass through UK border control are exempt from this requirement.

Travelers may prove they have received all doses of a vaccine using one of the below methods:

  • Vaccination certificate issued by NHS;
  • Vaccination certificate approved by the WHO EUL (Sinovac, Sinopharm, Covaxin);
  • Vaccination certificates issued in EU countries or Switzerland with vaccines approved by the EMA;
  • Vaccination certificates issued in the USA with vaccines approved by the FDA;
  • Vaccination certificates issued from a relevant public health authority in selected countries.

Vaccines accepted are Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna, Janssen (single-dose vaccine), Sinovac/CoronaVac, Sinopharm Beijing, Covaxin. Mixing between two-dose vaccines is also recognized. Mixing between two-dose vaccines under 2 different approved programs, for example, Australia and Japan, UK and USA, France and Canada.

Travelers who cannot present a vaccination certificate under this criteria must follow the testing and quarantine rules for unvaccinated travelers. Travelers are considered fully vaccinated if they have had the final dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before the arrival date in the UK.
