Traveling to Mexico during the COVID Pandemic

From Philippines on

We landed in Puerto Vallarta and are slowly making our way east to Riviera Maya. We're spending time in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Tequila, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Merida, Valladolid, Riviera Maya, etc.

How did you enter the country?
Air
Any difficulties with your vaccination card when entering the destination?
None whatsoever. I had multiple documents to prove that I was fully vaccinated and boosted, but they didn't ask for it.
Was your COVID test result accepted?
We were not asked to provide a COVID test result.
Did the local government ask for travel or health insurance when you arrived?
No, they didn't.
Did you experience any challenges with customs, immigration, or the health authorities related to COVID?
None whatsoever. It was one of the easiest immigration entry procedures we've ever gone through.
If needed, were COVID tests easy to find and book at your destination?
We haven't needed to get a COVID test in Mexico but, based on my research, it shouldn't be hard to find and book an RT-PCR or antigen test.
Was this destination abnormally crowded or empty?
Mexico has stayed open throughout the pandemic, so I'm assuming its tourist levels are close to normal.
Were you required to wear a mask inside restaurants, event spaces, or public transportation? If you were able to choose, did you feel comfortable wearing or not wearing a mask?
Yes, in most public spaces like shops, restaurants, museums, churches, buses, etc. We always feel more comfortable wearing a mask and we expect everyone else to do the same.
Did the destination adapt physical distancing in day-to-day situations?
Yes, many public spaces try to enforce social distancing when possible.
Did restaurants, businesses, and public services take COVID-related sanitary precautions that you noticed?
Yes, some do like sanitizing your hands and body and doing temperature checks.
Were there additional requirements to travel within the region?
We were just required to register online and fill out a COVID-related form before entry.
Were most attractions open? Were you able to visit the ones you wanted to attend?
Yes, pretty much all attractions have been open.
Anything you found to be noteworthy about your trip related to traveling with additional restrictions and policies?
It's surprising how easily we can adjust. You'd think that traveling with all these additional requirements would be detrimental, but you adapt and get used to them pretty quickly. It really does feel like the new normal now.
Anything else you think fellow travelers should know?
Please wear your masks and practice social distancing when visiting Mexico. Many locals wear masks, but I'd say more tourists choose not to wear them. This isn't your country, so be respectful while you're here.
