Traveled to the Maldives with my friend Gage to visit 3 different resorts. My friend works for Marriott, so we got amazing deals on each of the properties, and it was an absolutely incredible experience!
- How did you enter the country?
- Air
- Any difficulties with your vaccination card when entering the destination?
- The arrival process was super straight forward. You just needed to make sure you had the proper paperwork, hotel booking, and a negative PCR COVID test.
- Was your COVID test result accepted?
- Yes.
- Did the local government ask for travel or health insurance when you arrived?
- No, they did not require specific travel insurance.
- Did you experience any challenges with customs, immigration, or the health authorities related to COVID?
- The only difficult part was that you needed a negative PCR test for each property. The resorts all have health clinics on the islands so it was simple, but costly. If I were to go back to the Maldives during COVID times, I would pick only 2 resorts instead of 3.
- Were you selected for a random health check? If so, what was involved and how did it go?
- No, I was not.
- If needed, were COVID tests easy to find and book at your destination?
- Yeah, absolutely. The islands have their own clinics to do PCT tests.
- Did you have any difficulties with testing or receiving your results on time?
- No.
- Was this destination abnormally crowded or empty?
- It was pretty busy, actually. I was surprised how many people were at each resort.
- Did you have to show proof of vaccination on location? For example, when entering restaurants, shops, events, etc.?
- No.
- Were you required to wear a mask inside restaurants, event spaces, or public transportation? If you were able to choose, did you feel comfortable wearing or not wearing a mask?
- Yes, masks were required to wear at public spaces around the resorts unless while eating.
- Did the country adapt physical distancing in day-to-day situations?
- Yes.
- Did restaurants, businesses, and public services take COVID-related sanitary precautions that you noticed?
- All the cleaning was superb, but I wouldn't expect any less from Maldives resorts.
- Were there additional requirements to travel within the country, state, or region?
- You need to fill out a questionnaire online to receive a QR code upon arrival and departure.
- Were most attractions open? Were you able to visit the ones you wanted to attend?
- Everything was operating while on the island resorts.
- Were there any surprising or unexpected COVID policies on your trip?
- No.
- Anything else you think fellow travelers should know?
- Just make sure you have all the paperwork and hotel bookings, and a trip to the Maldives is totally possible and enjoyable during COVID times! :-)
