Traveling to Greece during the COVID Pandemic

From United States on

Alexis traveled to several popular destinations in Greece from the United States with friends over the summer.

How did you enter the country?
Air
If needed, were COVID tests easy to find and book? (Especially before your return or onward flight)
I ordered a pack of 6 home test kits from the link via United Airlines when booking my flight. You are able to take them via a Zoom call with a doctor on your phone, and you get results within 15 minutes. The doctor sends you a signed test result sheet to your email. Extremely easy and convenient!
Do you have to show your proof of vaccination often while visiting the country? For example, when going in and out of tourist attractions, restaurants, etc.
No, never once asked. Even taking the ferries between islands, no vaccination or test card was requested. After leaving the airport there was basically no talk of COVID.
Did the local government ask for travel or health insurance when you arrived?
No.
Was this destination crowded with visitors or empty?
Not overly crowded, Crete was definitely the least crowded and Mykonos the most. These islands are small so reservations are necessary for any restaurants or activities.
Did you need to wear a mask inside restaurants, attractions, or public transportation? If you were able to choose, did you feel comfortable wearing or not wearing a mask?
We were never asked by a restaurant to put on a mask. A few small stores did request that we wear them, but for the most part, no one required a mask.
Were most attractions open? Were you able to visit the ones you wanted to attend?
Yes, every excursion, store and restaurant was fully open.
Did the country adapt physical distancing in day-to-day situations? How did you experience this as a traveler?
I didn't experience this when traveling.
Did restaurants, businesses, and public services take sanitary precautions that you noticed?
There are hand sanitizer stations and masks available for those who want them.
Tell us about your experience when entering the country. Were there any challenges with customs, immigration, or the health authorities related to COVID?
No challenges! Customs in Greece is extremely relaxed. They care more about the PLF (Passenger Locator Form), and you must fill out this form before entry. Upon arrival in Athens, they randomly selected people for a COVID swab but did not give results back and we never heard from them.
